As our Backend Engineer, you'll be responsible for Mintos' core marketplace product, and will own complex features end-to-end, optimizing systems that process millions of transactions.

What you'll do
You'll be joining the Notes Team - a group of senior backend engineers (both Java and PHP) who thrive on thinking outside the box. As a Backend Engineer on the Notes Team, you'll collaborate with experienced engineers to tackle some of our most challenging technical problems around automated investing, portfolio diversification, and high-volume transaction processing.

You will:

• Design and ship backend features for our core marketplace - from automated investing algorithms to complex accounting reconciliation systems
  
• Build scalable solutions for processing vast amounts of investment data and real-time portfolio calculations
  
• Write clean, tested, and maintainable code in PHP, while collaborating with Java developers on shared system architecture
  
• Solve performance challenges at scale - optimize queries handling millions of records, design efficient batch processing, and implement smart caching strategies
  
• Pioneer new technologies and patterns when existing solutions don't meet our scale requirements
  
• Design systems that handle complex financial computations while maintaining accuracy and auditability
  
• Contribute to architectural decisions that impact our entire marketplace infrastructure

Your professional skills and background

Must-haves: 

• 3-5+ years of hands-on experience with PHP 8+ and modern frameworks (ideally Symfony)
  
• Strong understanding of MySQL/PostgreSQL at scale - complex schema design, query optimization for large datasets, efficient indexing strategies
  
• Experience with data-intensive applications and batch processing patterns
  
• Solid grasp of software design patterns, clean architecture, and SOLID principles
  
• Experience designing APIs that handle high-throughput financial operations
  
• Comfortable with automated testing in complex domain contexts
  
• Strong communication skills in English - you'll be discussing complex technical solutions regularly
  

Nice-to-haves:

• Experience with RabbitMQ or similar message brokers for async processing
• Knowledge of financial calculations, accounting principles, or investment domain
• Experience optimizing systems handling millions of daily transactions
• Familiarity with HikariCP or similar connection pooling solutions
• Understanding of algorithmic complexity and data structure optimization
• Experience with Aurora Serverless V2 or similar cloud databases
• Track record of introducing new technologies to solve novel problems
• Exposure to polyglot environments (Java/PHP interoperability)

For senior-level candidates, we also value:
